Booking & money

What's included in my cruise fare?
Your stateroom, meals in the main dining room and Windjammer buffet, many casual eateries, Broadway-style shows, pools, waterslides and most activities, plus Adventure Ocean kids' programs. Not included: alcohol, soda and specialty coffee (unless you buy a package), specialty restaurants, Wi-Fi, gratuities, spa treatments and shore excursions.
How much are gratuities?
Royal Caribbean adds them to your onboard account automatically: $18.50 per person, per day for Junior Suites and below, and $21.00 per person, per day in suites (as of October 2026). You can prepay them before you sail so there are no surprises at the end.
Should I buy travel insurance?
We strongly recommend it, especially for hurricane-season sailings (June to November). It can cover cancellations, missed departures, medical care at sea and lost luggage.

Who can sail

How old do I have to be to book?
At least one guest in each stateroom must be 21 or older, unless younger guests are sailing with their parents or a guardian, or are part of a married couple. The drinking age on sailings from North America is 21.
Can I bring my baby?
Yes. Infants must be at least 6 months old on the day you sail, or 12 months for some longer itineraries with several sea days in a row (like transatlantic crossings and Hawaii).
Are there kids' programs?
Yes! Adventure Ocean is free for ages 3 to 12, grouped by age, and teens 13 to 17 have their own spaces and activities. There's a paid nursery on many ships for babies and toddlers.
What documents do I need?
U.S. citizens on round-trip cruises from a U.S. port can usually sail with an original or certified birth certificate plus government photo ID, but we always recommend a valid passport. If you ever have to fly home from a foreign port, you'll need one. The name on your ID must match your reservation.

Embarkation day

When should I arrive at the port?
Pick an arrival time when you check in online in the Royal Caribbean app, about 90 days to a few days before you sail. Arriving at your chosen time keeps lines short. All aboard is usually about 90 minutes before departure, and late guests can be denied boarding.
Can I bring wine or alcohol?
Each stateroom may carry on two 750 ml bottles of wine or champagne on embarkation day (a corkage fee applies if you drink them in a restaurant or bar). No other alcohol is allowed, and bottles bought in port are held until the end of the cruise.
What should I pack in my carry-on?
Your documents, medications, a swimsuit, sunscreen and anything valuable. Checked bags are delivered to your stateroom later in the afternoon, so plan to enjoy the pool deck in the meantime.

Onboard

Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes. Royal Caribbean's VOOM internet is some of the fastest at sea. Prices change often, and buying ahead in the Cruise Planner is usually cheaper than onboard.
Is the Deluxe Beverage Package worth it?
If you'll have about six or more drinks a day (cocktails, beer, wine, plus specialty coffee and soda), usually yes. Everyone 21+ in the same stateroom has to buy it if one does. Watch for Cruise Planner sales before you sail.
What is Perfect Day at CocoCay?
Royal Caribbean's private island in the Bahamas, with beaches, a water park, the tallest waterslide in North America and the adults-only Hideaway Beach. It's included on many Bahamas and Caribbean itineraries. Some areas cost extra.
Which ship is right for me?
For thrills and the newest everything, look at Icon or Oasis Class. For a sleek, modern ship with great tech, Quantum Class. For classic Royal fun at a great value, Freedom or Voyager Class. For scenery and a relaxed pace, Radiance or Vision Class. Compare them on our Ships page.
